Respectful Relationships Education Sessions

Liberty’s respectful relationships education sessions for schools are aligned to the NSW curriculum by supporting students to create safe, equal and respectful relationships.

Sessions are tailored to each school and class group and include topics such as:

  • how gender stereotyping can negatively influence relationships
  • identifying healthy and unhealthy behaviours within relationships
  • the use of power and control – the line between caring and controlling
  • bystander/upstander actions
  • emotional regulation

“The students found the session so valuable. We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and felt safe to discuss this sensitive topic. We really admire your strength and professionalism in working in this area.” – Angelina Morley, Camden Haven High School

Professional Learning for Teachers

Now that Respectful Relationships is in the curriculum, teachers need to be equipped to confidently talk about healthy and unhealthy relationships and safely support students who may be experiencing domestic and family violence.

Liberty delivers tailored training sessions to staff to assist them to implement the curriculum and create a safe, informed, whole-of-school approach to preventing and responding to domestic and family violence.

Sessions are informed by each school’s policies and processes and support the school to:

  • understand the evidence and terminology of Respectful Relationships education
  • build a shared understanding of domestic and family violence
  • recognise the signs that a student, parent/carer or colleague might be experiencing domestic and family violence
  • respond safely and appropriately to disclosures of violence, in line with legislation
  • connect students, families and colleagues with specialist support services
