Around 400 people walked in white today, taking important steps towards safety for women and children at the 2024 Coastal Walk Against Domestic & Family Violence on 24 November.
Every year, the Coastal Walk brings the community together, walking in solidarity with victim-survivors, as we say no to domestic and family violence.
Communications & Community Advisor Michelle Parker said, Liberty was grateful for everyone who walked, raised funds and donated.
“Together, so far we’ve raised more than $13,000, with donations still coming in,” Ms Parker said.
“Every dollar will stay right here in the local community supporting women and children who have experienced abuse.
“We heard from guest speaker Dave Kramer, who became an Ambassador for the Small Steps for Hannah charity after the tragic loss of his best friend, Hannah Clarke, and her children in 2020.
“Dave shared his heartfelt story and called for collective community action to prevent violence against women and children.”
66 Australian women have been killed as a result of violence so far this year, according to Counting Dead Women Australia. That’s more than one woman each week.
The walk kicked off the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which begins on 25 November, International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day.
“We’re asking everyone to consider how they can be part of the solution by starting the conversation in their homes, workplaces and social groups to end violence and abuse,” Ms Parker said.
The 2024 Coastal Walk Against Domestic & Family Violence was proudly supported by Gold Sponsors – Harvey Norman and Elders Lifestyle Group and Silver Sponsors – Magnified Accounting, Sovereign Vet Hospital, Kristal Kinsela Consulting and Men and Women at Work.
